there has been a rebel army of brainwashed children silently marching out their demons throughout the land of Northern Uganda.
for 21 years, children were sporadically taken from their villages and arms of their parents and forced to kill. some stories tell of watching their entire family die brutally at the hands of these 'soldiers'. other children remember when a recently abducted child in their group tried to run away. the little boy was caught, and as punishment the other children had to bite him till he died.
fear is instilled at the deepest, most inhumane level, on the most vulnerable demographic. the innocence of childhood is broken and stolen with the devilish brainwashing of Joseph Kony and his Lords Resistance Army.
the LRA was started in 1986 by Alice Lakwena, Joseph Kony's aunt to fight President Museveni. by 1989 Joseph Kony had taken over and the army had begun committing war crimes against their own tribe, the Acholi tribe of Norther Uganda. in one decade 8, 000 children were kidnapped. now all presumed dead.
indoctrination of the children are based on the Ten Commandments and the Old Testament, using some of the harshest passages to beat, rape and severe limbs with machetes. whichcraft and the Holy Spirit became perverted and confussed by violence and disillusioned power.
in 2008 peace was declared in Northern Uganda as the LRA was driven out into Sudan, the Congo and Central African Republic. Although Kony refused to sign a peace agreement, for the first time in many of the Acholi's lives, they were able to sleep in peace. Families began leaving the IDP camps where up to 500, 000 people lived at a time, and move home to their destroyed farms to rebuild their lives. the children who grew up walking for hours every afternoon to sleep in the villages for safety could now sleep in their huts beside their parents.
their is now continued peace 2 years on, and families and villages are beginning to rebuild their lives. many children are returning home and stories of hope and despair are both emerging.
